RALLY STARS AND CARS RAISE THE BAR FOR EXTREME SPORTS.
X GAMES INCLUDED RALLY AS PART OF THE PROGRAM FOR 2006. AS AMBASSADORS OF THE SPORT, THE OPEN CLASS AND TWO-WHEEL-DRIVE EXHIBITION RALLY TEAMS INVITED TO THE EVENT EXPOSED THE AUDIENCE TO THE RHYTHM, DRAMA, SKILL, BRAVERY, AND EXCITEMENT INHERENT IN EVERY RALLY EVENT.
Walking into the rally service area next to the Home Depot Center on Thursday morning, you could sense that this rally was something special. The energy level surrounding the four cars officially supported by Subaru of America, Inc. (SOA) and prepared by Vermont SportsCar (SOA’s partner in Subaru Rally Team USA) was higher than usual for a practice day.
Contributing factors to that extra energy included:
- Subaru Rally Team (SRT) USA servicing four cars instead of two
- Increased media coverage
- The presence of World Rally Champions Colin McRae and Nicky Grist in the SOA/Vermont SportsCar service tents
McRae and Grist are almost legendary, and their entry reinforced the importance of this event to rally in America. The other three teams representing SOA were Rally America Open Class regulars Travis Pastrana/Christian Edstrom and Ken Block/Alex Gelsomino along with the Production GT team of Tanner Foust/Scott Crouch.
