Subaru Forester Participates in Dakar 2010
The name Dakar conjures up images of sand, dust, gravel, and desolation as motorcycles, cars, and trucks plow through sand dunes and skirt remote villages. Now run in South America rather than Africa, the challenges are similar.
Two Forester entries joined the fray for 2010. Prepared by Barattero, the STI Group N Base Team, they featured modified turbocharged 2.0-liter SUBARU BOXER engines and rally-ready chassis with competition suspension components. Although both suffered from transmission issues and had to withdraw, the Forester entries demonstrated their competitive edge by placing as high as 5th in their classification for one of the stages.
The drivers were Yoshino Ikemachi (winner of the Production class in the 2004 Dakar Rally) and Gabriel Pozzo (former Production WRC driver).
