Subaru Motorsports: 2010 Midseason Review

AS THIS ISSUE OF DRIVE PERFORMANCE GOES TO PRESS, BOTH SUBARU MOTORSPORTS TEAMS ARE DEEPLY INTO THEIR RESPECTIVE SEASONS. SUBARU RALLY TEAM USA (SRT USA) HAS COMPETED IN FIVE OF THE SIX RALLIES THAT COMPRISE THE 2010 RALLY AMERICA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, AND, BY THE TIME YOU READ THIS, THE SIXTH – THE NEW ENGLAND FOREST RALLY – WILL HAVE BEEN RUN. SUBARU ROAD RACING TEAM (SRRT) HAS CONTENDED SEVEN OF THE 10 GRAND-AM CONTINENTAL TIRE SPORTS CAR CHALLENGE RACES FOR 2010 – THREE OF THEM WITHIN THE PERIOD BETWEEN MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AND JUNE 19.

In a sport where you have to finish to win, Travis Pastrana/Christian Edstrom did just that through the first four rallies. They completed two and won both – the Sno*Drift Rally (Atlanta, Michigan) in January and the Olympus Rally (Ocean Shores, Washington) in April. Then, Pastrana missed both the Oregon Trail Rally and the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR) due to other commitments, severely reducing hopes for a repeat championship.

Dave Mirra and co-driver Martin Headland consistently moved up in the standings through the first three rallies, then stumbled at Oregon Trail Rally (The Dalles, Oregon) where they rolled on the second day. At STPR, engine problems sidelined the team. However, Mirra remained in 4th with one round to go.
