Subaru Road Racing Team (SRRT)
The road racing team's last three rounds in the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series showed the team's potential on one hand and typified its seasonal lack of luck on the other. Against strong competition in the heat and humidity of summer at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Bret Spaude and Andrew Aquilante drove the #35 WRX STI to a top-10 finish. The race proved draining and electrifying.
However, in the last two races, the team had a crash resulting from brake failure at Circuit Trois-Rivières (Trois-Rivières, Québec, Canada) and a race-ending broken center differential at Miller Motorsports Park (Tooele, Utah).
As discouraging as the season may have been, team principal Joe Aquilante saw the value in eliminating challenges from race to race, writing, "This year will make a great case study on bringing a new car to the front in racing!!!"
Looking forward to 2011, Subaru Motorsports Marketing Manager James Han commented, "Vermont SportsCar and Phoenix Performance will continue to field our factory rally and road racing programs, respectively. From a product standpoint, the Subaru Road Racing Team will shift toward developing a 4-door WRX STI for the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series in the GS class, while Subaru Rally Team USA continues with the 5-door WRX STI in both the RallyCar Open Class Championship and Rallycross series."
