10th Annual 48HrS of Tristate
Ten years ago, a group of Subaru enthusiasts set out in five cars on a January weekend in the New Jersey/New York/Pennsylvania area, looking for someplace to go. In the middle of winter, finding a place to drive and a purpose for it can be difficult if you live in the Snowbelt.
From such a modest beginning, the 48HRS of Tristate has grown to include more than 50 Subaru vehicles in 2011, and the group of drivers and their supporters raised more than $40,000 for the American Cancer Society. This year’s edition of the drive expanded far beyond the Atlantic coast and the Northeast.
The group’s overland journey started after breakfast at Subaru of America, Inc. headquarters in Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Drivers and their passengers, split into three groups, started traveling west. The schedule included:
- Thursday, January 13 – west from Cherry Hill to Lebanon, Indiana – approximately 680 miles
- Friday, January 14 – north from Lebanon to Lafayette, Indiana, to the Subaru of Indiana Automotive, Inc., plant (for a plant tour, presentation, and raffle), then southeast to Cincinnati, Ohio, to visit TurninConcepts (for a barbecue) – approximately 200 miles
- Saturday, January 15 – northeast to Buffalo, New York – approximately 430 miles
- Sunday, January 16 – east to Ithaca and Central Valley, New York – approximately 350 miles
