IN VERSION 7.3, WE SHOWED THE DRIVE PERFORMANCE WRX (DP WRX) WRAPPED WITH A DESIGN CHOSEN BY READERS ON THE MAGAZINE’S COMPANION WEBSITE. WE ALSO INDICATED THAT VINYL LOGOS FOR THE COMPANIES INVOLVED IN THE MODIFICATIONS FOR OUR 2010 SUBARU WRX AS WELL AS THE SUBARU BADGE OF OWNERSHIP WERE IN PLACE.
BUT THAT WASN’T THE END. WE WEREN’T FINISHED WITH THE EXTERIOR YET!
If you took a hard look at the DP WRX images in the last issue and/or at those posted with Part 2, perhaps you noticed that the stock rear spoiler wasn’t on the car when it was wrapped. We removed it. In fact, the entire trunk lid was replaced by one without a spoiler.
With the help of the Genuine Subaru Performance Parts people, we took delivery of a plain trunk lid prior to wrapping DP WRX and asked the body shop at Sommer’s Subaru to install it. That was in anticipation of receiving something special from Japan – a rear spoiler from the new 2011 WRX STI Sedan!
The replacement trunk lid was necessary for two reasons: First, the mounting holes for the original-equipment spoiler do not match those for the WRX STI Sedan spoiler. We would have had some body work to do, and, as you may remember, we are required to return the car as we received it – with all its original equipment. That’s the second reason for the replacement lid.
As a result, DP WRX’s original trunk lid and spoiler are boxed and stored in anticipation of retrofitting them.
