Is There Ever Enough Carbon Fiber?
Performance Parts sent us other goodies for sprucing up the exterior and part of the interior. In the form of carbon fiber, these consisted of B-pillar trim (J101SFG110), trunk trim cover (J101SFG100), and side sill inserts (E101SFG000).
These three kits are easy to install. Just clean where the pieces fit, dry, wipe with alcohol (enclosed in the kits), peel off the tape backing on the carbon-fiber pieces, and push into place.
The parts incorporate the SPT logo, and they enhance the car’s appearance – especially on the trunk. There, the carbon fiber strongly complements the wrap design.
Wheels and Tires
That leaves the wheels, which readers have chosen by the poll on the home page of driveperformance.subaru.com. Readers chose the Matte Graphite Silver O.Z. Alleggerita HLT wheels, which we’ll mount on DP WRX in the spring along with right-sized rubber.
At present, DP WRX has 225/45 R17 Bridgestone Blizzak™ WS70™ tires mounted on the original-equipment wheels to deal with Midwest winter driving conditions. We chose Blizzak in consultation with Tire Rack in South Bend, Indiana.
Find reports on how well the car travels with them in winter in the next few entries about the DP WRX in the Editor’s Track Journal. At the least, these entries will concern:
- Taking part in the 48HRS of Tristate charity drive in January
- Round-trip travel from Milwaukee to Daytona Beach for the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge race in January
- Round-trip travel from Milwaukee to Missouri for the 100 Acre Wood Rally in February
Badge of Ownership FOR DP WRX
We attached our Subaru Badge of Ownership icons to the DP WRX while we were at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida, with Subaru Road Racing Team. This is the magazine’s first Subaru, so we ordered the “My 1st Subaru” badge. The icons that we chose are for the magazine’s interests in “Mechanical,” “Performance,” and “Rally.”
Order your FREE icons from Subaru at www.badgeofownership.com. Three new ones just became available: “Camping,” “Cooking,” and “Photography.”
When the weather breaks for spring above the Mason-Dixon Line, we’ll perform mechanical modifications on DP WRX. We have quite a few stored pieces to install, and we’re anxious to get started.
The Subaru Motorsports teams have busy schedules throughout spring and early summer, and driving to them is our preferred mode of transportation. We’ll attend other national, regional, and local Subaru events with car as well.
Keep up with us in the Editor’s Track Journal, and watch there for alerts concerning our attendance at various events. We hope to meet you out there!
