Starting the season with insanely bad luck and unpredictable mechanical woes in the first two rounds of the 2012 Continental Tire series, SRRT, with drivers Bret Spaude and Andrew Aquilante, have earned top spots in qualifying and a podium finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Round 3. SRRT has been building momentum with its #35 WRX STI Sedan since the team first entered it in competition last year.
Always competitive, SRRT was running among the leaders at Round 1 in the Daytona race when, on the last lap, another car spun in front of #35 and collected it for a DNF. At Round 2 in the Barber race, the car’s rear end failed as it closed in on the lead position, causing another DNF.
But fortunes turned around at Round 3 in the Homestead race, where the team started in the front row and achieved 3rd place in a race with varying weather conditions.
All of SRRT’s hard work through development, testing, and two years of heady competition finally resulted in stellar results in Round 4 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Not only did SRRT lead the practice sessions, but Bret Spaude qualified the #35 WRX STI on the pole. Then Spaude kept the car near the head of the pack, followed by Andrew Aquilante driving through the field after pit-lane penalties to win the two-and-a-half-hour race!
